The law and document destruction

It's always interesting when we walk into a potential client's office, and see a stack of paperwork lying on the floor in the corner. When we ask about it, the answer, inevitably, is "That pile only stays there for a week, then we throw it out."

Little do they know, 9 times out of 10 they are breaking the law.

The law is very strict when it comes to protecting the privacy of a company's clients and employees. Just one violation could result in thousands of $$$ in fines, as well as their reputation.

HERE is a great article on just one of the laws...HIPPA.

FACTA Law and Paper Shredding in Louisville

FACTA stands for "Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act", a law that became effective in June 2005. The FACTA law requires companies that have one or more employees to provide them with proper document disposal equipment. In other words, according to the FACTA Law, important personal or business related documents have to be discarded in a safe way that thoroughly eliminates chances of identity theft. The best way of complying with the new FACTA is to hire a paper shredding service like A Plus Paper Shredding in Louisville, the most protected and successful method of removing information and eliminating sensitive documents.

Increased protection since HIPAA
Only a few businesses are aware of all the requirements of the FACTA Law. The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act specifies a series of penalties for businesses that are not complying with it. FACTA law increases personal ID protection for employees and reduces the chances of identity theft from happening. The FACTA law was created to protect employee information and it followed the footsteps of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).

Tips for Choosing a Paper Shredding Service

The increased threats of identity theft and industrial espionage have moved data security to a business priority. The costs to a company that fails to protect the personal information in its care can be devastating. Add in federal and state privacy laws including FACTA (Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act) and every office now needs a data security program.

Since the day of the paperless office continues to move out; a great deal of private information is sill on paper documents. How you dispose of your files is just as important as how it is stored. This means a shredding program for every office regardless of size. Along with the greater importance on shredding is the growing volume of documents that need to be shredded.
